Sex Offender Information

In 1986 the state of Illinois enacted the Habitual Child Sex Offender Registration Act which required an offender of multiple sex crimes against victims under the age of 18 to register with the state of Illinois.  Throughout the years various changes had been made to the law, and in 1996 the Habitual Child Sex Offender Registration Act became the Sex Offender Registration Act.  Since 1996 the law has been amended numerous times in an attempt to keep better track of all sex crime offenders regardless of the victim's age.  Illinois continues to discuss changes to the law to create a better registration system and make sex crime offenders responsible for their past actions.

The Illinois State Police established and maintain a statewide Sex Offender Database which is accessible via the Internet.  It identifies Sex Offenders in the state of Illinois and list his/her crime(s) that was/were committed.  It also lists the current registered residence of the Sex Offender, and if the Sex Offender is compliant in his/her required registration obligations.
