At
the southeast side of the Macomb Police Department sits a memorial marker
that was constructed in 1997. The memorial is a constant reminder of
our colleagues who were injured while on duty and died as a result of
their injuries.

J. Edward "Opie" Whittlesey

Officers
Whittlesey, Bowman, and Links died in 1930 as a result of a violent shoot
out with a suspect that had been detained at the southwest corner of the
downtown Macomb Square. Officer Luther Jackson was also injured from
gunfire in the incident.
Lt.
McFadden died in 1994 as a result of leukemia that was brought on by
medication that was administered to him starting in 1989 when he was a
victim of an accident in which he was run over and severely injured.
