Message from Chief Michael Galloway
Dear Citizens of Macomb, Illinois The members of the Macomb Police Department are committed to dedicated service and protection. Our mission is to protect life and property, maintain public order, enforce laws and provide professional policing. Policing is a difficult job and it is fair to say that police officers may not always feel the appreciation of a job that has so many duties and responsibilities, a job where decisions that sometimes have to be made within seconds may later be questioned or scrutinized over a period of months. I can assure you that the Macomb Police Department strives to do its best under all circumstances and assure that the citizens of Macomb receive quality and professional police services. My philosophy for the department, since I became Chief in 2003, is a philosophy that emphasizes a balance of professionalism, enforcement, education and positive public relations. The Macomb Police Department has a number of divisions with the patrol division being made of up patrol officers, Sergeants and Lieutenants for each of the departments three shifts. The department has a detective division which provides follow-up support on numerous incidents and responds to crime scenes to conduct further investigations. The department also has a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO) / D.A.R.E. officer who spends a large majority of their time in the Macomb schools for nine months of the year. The department also has a K-9 unit. The department overall has a number of specialized divisions therefore offering the community a wide variety of specialized services and educational opportunities. The department’s goals, missions and services can not be completely efficient without the support and understanding of you, the citizens of the community. I ask for your continued support of the Macomb Police Department. Sincerely, Michael Galloway Chief of Police
