Lateral Transfer Requirements

All applicants that are interested in Lateral Transfer (Alternative Eligibility) must meet the following criteria pursuant to

Public Act 95-931

Lateral Transfer applicants are required to meet the standard Application Requirements as well as the following additional requirements:

 

  • Have certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a certified full time police officer

 

  • Have previous continuous service as a Police Officer in the State of Illinois for a minimum of two years

 

  • Be in good standing with the Police Department the applicant currently serves or be in good standing with the Police Department the applicant has previous separated from with no adverse employment action
  • Be eligible to be granted a Waiver of Basic Training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board

Lateral Transfer (Alternative Eligibility) applicants who have been determined by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board to meet the above requirements will not be required to attend the Orientation or take the Written Test and Physical Agility Test.  Lateral Transfer applicants will be required to participate in an oral interview at a later date.

A list in order of excellence based on final scores will be compiled after completion of all oral interviews.  Lateral Transfer applicants will be on a separate list from applicants that do not meet the Lateral Transfer requirements.  All Lateral Transfer applicants must successfully complete all the other phases of the Testing Process prior to an offer of employment being given.
